Louisiana Gov. Jindal responds to Lafayette theater shooting
He said that the teacher were out to enjoy a movie prior to school starting in a few weeks and that one of the teachers threw herself in front of the other teacher in an effort to shield them.
Bobby Jindal speaks with the media following a deadly shooting at the Grand Theatre in Lafayette, La., Thursday, July 23, 2015.
“Even though she was shot in the leg, she had the presence of mind to pull the fire alarm to help save other lives”, Jindal said. “You don’t think when they go to a movie that they’ll be in harm’s way”.
“What it appears is that this was slow and methodical … this was a gunman who took his time”, Jindal said.
The police stated they located the shooter’s vehicle across the street from the theatre parking lot and out of an “abundance of caution” called in the bomb squad.
About 100 people were inside the theater at the time, which was showing the popular movie Trainwreck. Jindal offered his condolences to family members of the victims.
At a press conference after he visited the victims in hospital Governor Jindal praised the unnamed teacher saying she “literally jumped over her and actually saved her life”, according to ABC News. We can hug these families, shower them with love, thoughts and prayers.
Jindal also said that the suspected killer, John Russell Houser, was likely “slow and methodical” in the slaughter.
