Adele’s ‘Hello’ fastest to reach 1 billion views on YouTube
Her single Hello has hit a billon views on YouTube in 87 days.
The video beats out Psy’s “Gangnam Style,” which held the previous record of 158 days.
Having won six Grammys for her 2011 hit album “21”, Adele broke opening week sales records in the United States when she returned to recording after a four-year absence with “25”.
The video for her iconic song Hello – flip phone and all – is now the quickest video to reach 1 billion views on Vevo, according to her label XL Recordings.
YouTube said 17 videos have now reached one billion views.
LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Adele has outpaced Psy on the race to 1 billion views on YouTube.
Others in the billionaire club include Maroon 5′s Sugar, Major Lazer’s Lean On, OneRepublic’s Counting Stars, LMFAO’s Party Rock and Sia’s Chandelier. Katy Perry’s “Roar” did it in 487 days, which set a record for 2013. In 2014, it was Taylor Swift’s “Blank Space” at 238 days.
Taking to Twitter last night, VEVO confirmed the news by writing: “In just 88 days, @Adele has become the fastest person EVER to hit [1 billion] views on Vevo”.
Adele, whose album “25” swiftly became the biggest seller of 2015, has achieved an additional milestone.
