‘Avatar 2′ May Not Be Ready For Christmas 2017 After All
“There’s a layer of complexity in getting the story to work as a saga across three films that you don’t get when you’re making a stand-alone film”, Cameron said at the time. While Fox, the studio releasing the film, declined to comment, the site reports that their sources had confirmed this news.
That planning may have caused another delay in the release of Avatar 2 as The Wrap reports the film will not be ready for a Christmas, 2017 release. The previous release date was, however, never officially confirmed by 20th Century Fox. The busy schedules of Avatar’s main leads would certainly be a problem for the next three films in its franchise. “I call it a meta-narrative that runs across the three movies”.
“Christmas of ’17 is the target”, he told the Montreal Gazette.
But the matchup between “Star Wars: Episode VIII” and “Avatar 2” doesn’t look like it is going to take place anymore.
This is the second rescheduling for the next installment in the “Avatar” franchise.
Avatar was released in 2009 and starred Sam Worthington as former marine Jake Sully – who fell in love with Zoe Saldana’s Na’vi alien when he was transported to the lush, near utopian planet of Pandora. Avatar 2 and Episode VIII should not come out the same month.
However, Cameron said he hopes to finish their preparations by the end of the year so that they can start with the filming process.
The Force Awakens is the third highest grossing film ever at $1.9 billion next to another Cameron film, Titanic at $2.2 billion, and Avatar at $2.8 billion.
Meanwhile, other sources speculated that the decision to delay “Avatar 2” might also be affected by Disney’s announcement to move “Star Wars Episode VIII” to December 15, 2017.
