Manchester United’s Ashley Young sidelined for ‘months’ with groin injury
Young’s injury, which he suffered in the first-half of United’s 1-0 win at Liverpool, has left boss Louis van Gaal without four full-backs.
Ashley Young needs surgery on a serious groin injury as Manchester United’s injury problems have mounted.
Southampton won at Old Trafford last season for the first time since 1988.
It was reported earlier this week that the 64-year-old’s family have become increasingly concerned about the pressure Van Gaal has found himself under in the last few weeks, and that he’s considering stepping down as a result.
They aren’t keen on the thought of laying out millions for players that Van Gaal’s successor might not want when he eventually does vacate his position.
“There’s a long way to go and there is no team who is showing a great consistency, so everything is still open”.
Louis van Gaal bemoaned the lack of available full-backs in the transfer market as he revealed that Manchester United are looking to make additions in January.
The absence of Young leaves United short of defenders at the moment following the injuries to Phil Jones, Marcos Rojo, Antonio Valencia and Luke Shaw.
Southampton have recorded back-to-back Premier League wins ahead of their trip to Manchester, but they have struggled on the road, losing each of their last four top flight fixtures away from St Mary’s.
“The gap is seven points and we can overcome that, so that’s what I’m thinking about”, Van Gaal confirmed after last week’s 1-0 win over rivals Liverpool. “It is not only the manager, that’s also why I have made this approach to the players”. “Nobody can understand that because everybody thinks it is easy, but it is not so”.
Former England and Manchester United skipper Bryan Robson stated that his money will be on Germany for the upcoming 2016 Euro Championships.
Austin, 26, has joined Saints in a £4 million (RM24.72 million) transfer and manager Ronald Koeman is set to hand the forward his debut at Old Trafford.
