Cavaliers Fire Coach David Blatt in Second Season
Friday was a whirlwind day for the Cleveland Cavaliers, as David Blatt was sacked as head coach and replaced by assistant Tyronn Lue.
Lue, 38, was a serious candidate for Cleveland’s coaching vacancy following 2013-14, and was named the franchise’s associate head coach less than 72 hours after Blatt took office. Blatt has been fired, according to a report. Despite all of that success though, the Cavaliers still are not satisfied as they have made a head coaching change.
The Cavaliers are 30-11 and leading the Central Division with the best record in the Eastern Conference, but earlier this week suffered a 132-98 loss at home to the defending champion Golden State Warriors.
David Blatt was sacked suddenly Friday as coach of LeBron James’ Cleveland Cavaliers. The decision to fire Blatt was “entirely” up to general manager David Griffin, a league source told ESPN.com. “I think he did a wonderful job trying to bring together a team of stars and build a new presence back in Cleveland”. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called Blatt to congratulate him for bringing the Cavaliers to the NBA Finals. They had just defeated the streaking Clippers on Thursday night after a bludgeoning at the hands of the Golden State Warriors – the team that defeated them in the NBA Finals – on Monday night.
