Apple Might Be Bringing Back the Small iPhone
The background is that nearly all investment analysts think Apple’s iPhone sales have gone into decline, because the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus updates late previous year were not exciting or “new” enough to tempt users to give up their old phones and buy a new one.
Apple (AAPL – Get Report) shares are getting a boost, up 3.13% to $99.32 after Piper Jaffray issued a bullish note on the tech giant last night. It looks like the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6, which were launched in September 2015 and featured 3D Touch technology, didn’t exactly wow consumers.
As you can see in the video with the leaked device below, this new iPhone looks very similar to the iPhone 6s, but in a smaller form factor. The company attributed the increase to the Apple Watch during the fourth-quarter earnings call.
Apple may be near ready to unveil a smaller iPhone 6C, if a newly leaked video is accurate. It’s unclear when it’s going to be released, but there are many reasons why a smaller iPhone would make sense.
According to the firm’s research, Apple’s current iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus smartphones were not able to dominate the comapany’s smartphone lineup during the holiday quarter to the extent that the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus did in the year-ago quarter.
Investors are expected to bid up Apple’s multiple in the months close to September since it has been the case with three out of the last four iPhones released.
The performance of Apple’s new products over the last few years should embarrass AAPL in general and Cook in particular.
Winer points to how Apple’s newest products are not taking off as expected, leaving the brunt of any growth on the iPhone. More recently, Apple stock and, by extension, Cook, have been boosted by the huge growth in iPhone sales in China.
The second gen Apple Watch 2 will not be coming in March this year, according to a new report from TechCrunch. “Customers continue to choose the year-old iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, and even the two-year old iPhone 5S”. Rumors about Apple’s 4-inch iPhone have consistently disagreed on the chip that it will use, split between the A8 and the A9.
