Army Chief remembers martyrs on Vijay Diwas, says won’t allow another Kargil
Army will hold a memorial service at the Kargil War Memorial where prayers by religious leaders will be held.
After paying tributes to the Kargil war martyrs at a memorial here, he said the “Army won’t allow another Kargilâ€. Not only did we get to know what we were capable of on the field but it also made us realize that talks are an alternative to resolving issues with Pakistan but it doesn’t hurt to scale up the activities of troop deployment on the border areas for self-defense.
The Kargil War was an armed conflict between India and Pakistan that took place between May and July 1999 in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kargil District and elsewhere along the Line of Control (LOC). India lost its courageous sons and some real superheroes in Vikram Batra, Sunil Kalia and Anuj Nayyar.
Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar and Army Chief General Dalbir Singh Suhag, who were expected to visit Drass tomorrow, were forced to cancel the visit due to inclement weather.
He said all those present at the occasion remembered the devotion and sacrifice of the officers, JCOs and Jawans who laid down their life in defending the motherland.
“The war is of special significance for the Northern Command as no Army in the world has perhaps fought and won a war in such adverse and challenging conditions”, he said.
