Highlights from Hue Jackson’s introductory press conference

According to multiple reports, that may lead directly to another big move: cutting Johnny Manziel. This would be McAdoo’s first head-coaching job. During the 2015 season, he found himself in hot water with the Browns organization when video of Manziel partying during the team’s bye week surfaced.

“I’m going to know them pretty well, pretty soon”, Jackson said.

The Browns have the second overall pick in this year’s draft and will likely get a quarterback.

For those reasons, along with the praise of his peers, Jackson brims with confidence, even he heads towards a daunting task: turning around the Cleveland Browns. Jackson has experience as a head coach, knows the AFC North and has fixed quarterbacks. While owner Jimmy Haslam specifically mentioned executive V.P. of football operations Sashi Brown, chief strategy officer Paul DePodesta, outside search consultant Jed Hughes, and Haslam’s wife (and L.A. Relocluster representative) Dee, there was not a single mention during the entire press conference of team president Alec Scheiner.

Jackson has been the Bengals’ offensive coordinator for the last two seasons, helping the team make consecutive playoff appearances and fielding one of the top offensive attacks in the NFL.

The Cleveland Browns are filling their coaching vacancy with Hue Jackson, the offensive coordinator of the Cincinnati Bengals. “I need to get in this building and have an opportunity to sit down and watch tape”, Jackson said.

“I have 142 text messages and majority are coaches”, said Jackson, per Grove.

“We got the right guy for the Cleveland Browns”, Jimmy Haslam said.

Jackson has to quickly assemble a coaching staff, and as Haslam looks for a GM who will acquire talent, there will be other decisions.

“I like challenges”, he said.

The Bengals, a team with a strong head coach already in place, coveted Jackson so much that Marvin Lewis tried to entice his good friend to stay on the Ohio River by offering a plan of succession. Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton just posted the best performance of his five-year career before his thumb injury ended his season.

While the 8-8 record also tied for the club’s most wins since the 2002 squad lost Super Bowl XXXVII, Jackson was still fired. “Jackson”™s ability to put a competitive team on the field in a turbulent environment bodes well for his ability to succeed with the rebuilding Browns, which to this point have been perennially dysfunctional. I’m not anxious about who picks this player or that player….

Cleveland’s latest coaching search didn’t last as long as the previous one, but it was no less harrowing for Browns fans, who have been through this drill before.
