Ted Cruz says he doesn’t have health insurance, blames Obamacare
“You know who one of those millions of Americans is who has lost their health care because of Obamacare?” In 2016, that fine is the higher of $695 per adult, or 2.5 percent of taxable household income, also levied per-person.
However, a number of details of his account do not line up with what health care experts told TPM.
Records show that Cruz funneled more than $1 million in loans into his 2012 election run, CNN Politics said.

“If I’m elected president, no serviceman or servicewoman will be forced to be on their knees, and any nation that captures our fighting men and women will feel the full force and fury of the United States of America”, he said. “I hope by the end of the month we’ll have a policy for our family, but our premiums – we just got a quote, our premiums are going up 50 percent”, he told the Manchester audience.
Cruz was a major opponent of the health care law who led an effort to shut down the government for 16 days in 2013 trying to defund it.
“Last year we informed members that we would no longer offer PPO’s to individual policy holders, but would work to transition them to other available insurance plans for individuals so they would not experience a gap in coverage”, said BCBS-Texas spokeswoman Edna Pérez-Vega, via email to TPM.
Previously, the Cruz family was covered under a health insurance plan provided by Goldman Sachs, where Cruz’s wife Heidi was employed. Cruz lost his coverage December 31 when the company stopped offering Texas Preferred Provider Organization plans.
“That’s happening all over the country”.
Cruz is also not the first Republican candidate to bring up the talking point that Obamacare has caused premium hikes of over 50 percent. “I’ve had, shall we say, some intense conversations with Heidi on that”.
