Runaway cow roped by New York City police gets new home
The incident happened just after noon near 164th Street and Jamaica Avenue in Jamaica Queens.
“I impressed upon [the slaughterhouse owner] several times that 38 billion cattle go to the food industry”, Stura told the New York Daily News. The cow’s freedom lasted just long enough to create amusement along busy Jamaica Avenue.
“I’ll give him a home and he’ll live a happy life”, Stura said. This is not the first incident of an animal escaping from this slaughter house. He was en route to the vet to get checked out as of Friday morning.
Stura named the cow Freddie in honor of Freddie Mercury, the lead singer of Queen, and the city in which the cow briefly roamed the streets.
Other less common animals that broke free in New York’s streets include a wolf-dog hybrid, an alligator and a coyote.
They shared pictures of the cow being roped and wrote: “Yes, you heard right!” And Thursday afternoon, officers chased a cow through a Jamaica parking garage.
“All officers safe. No injuries”.
To help Freddie on his journey to health and happiness, you can make a donation to Skylands Animal Sanctuary and Rescue here.
“Say hello to Freddie”, Stura posted on the Facebook page of Skylands Animal Sanctuary, the 230-acre refuge he created previous year.
