Alexander McQueen: The Movie Is In The Works
Alexander McQueen was the son of a taxi driver and schoolteacher, who went on to create costumes for the likes of David Bowie and Prince Charles during his apprenticeship at Saville Row, before launching his eponymous brand in 1992, that still endures today.
We’ve been saying for years that there needed to be a biopic about the late, great fashion designer Alexander McQueen-and now it looks like filmmakers are taking note.
Chris Urch is attached to the screenplay with Damian Jones as producer.
The story of Alexander McQueen’s meteoric rise to the top of the fashion industry-and his tragic death by suicide at the age of 40-is headed to big screen. While details are still scant, the film is bound to generate significant interest both within and outside of fashion circles since Savage Beauty, an exhibition dedicated to the designer at the V&A was a sell-out success past year.
McQueen who was openly gay, took a cocktail of drugs including cocaine before hanging himself the day before his mother’s funeral in February 2010.
With 45 Years at the centre of awards attention including an Oscar nomination for lead Charlotte Rampling, director Andrew Haigh has been on the lookout for a follow-up.
The late fashion designer was recently short-listed to appear on the UK’s next £20 note, after being nominated by members of the public.
