The pair had been working intermittently together since Space Oddity in 1960 and has produced Bowie albums including The Man Who Sold The World and The Next Day.

According to the Daily Mirror, David had told his nearest and dearest, including his 60-year-old wife Iman, that he only wanted to remembered for his music.

He recalled that he talked about David on the show last week, greeting him a happy birthday (David’s birthday was on January 8), and promoted the singer’s newly released album, Blackstar.

Sales of David Bowie’s final album, Blackstar, have soared after the singer’s death, as a series of tribute shows and memorial events in his honour were announced.

“David Bowie died peacefully today surrounded by his family after a courageous 18 month battle with cancer”, read the official announcement on Facebook on Monday.

It ended up being David Bowie.

Director Ivo van Hove, a close friend and collaborator of Bowie’s, confirmed that his friend had liver cancer during a recent Dutch radio interview.

He continued, “I thought, and he thought, that he’d have a few months, at least”.

Heartbroken fans have created impromptu memorials outside the singer’s apartment building in NY and in the singer’s native England. It was as amusing as always, and as surreal, looping through word games and allusions and all the usual stuff we did.

Speaking to Rolling Stone, Visconti said that Bowie had wrote and demoed five more songs during the final weeks of his life. “It was then that I realised that it may be the last time I would see him”.

Now, nearly 5,000 fans have signed an online petition which is entitled: “Say no to David Bowie dead”.

A concert at Carnegie Hall that was to be a tribute to Bowie had been planned for March before the artist’s death and it will reportedly still go on.
