Liverpool target Alex Teixeira in January raid
Alex Teixeira Santos, born in Duque de Caxais, Brazil in January 1990, started his career with Vasco de Game – the same club Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho learned his trade.
Liverpool are still in talks with Shakhtar Donetsk as they chase a deal for Alex Teixeira, who they have heavily scouted throughout a season where he has scored 26 goals in 26 games in all competitions.
Liverpool need another promising player with the versatility possessed by Teixeira, who can play central to create and score goals, but also out on the wing to allow for position changes and adequate rotation. There is no buy-out clause for the 26-year-old and Shakhtar rate the player at €50million [£38million], which is far in excess of what Liverpool want to pay. Teixeira has scored 22 goals in just 15 league matches, while also hitting the net three times in the Champions League.
“First of all we have January, a few days still, and the season ends in the middle of May”, explained Klopp ahead of the meeting with Norwich City.
“If there is a good player and we see a longer option with time to work together and not only for three games and then all the others come back then we would think about it”.
Reports then broke that Teixeira had pulled a hamstring within hours of the bid, but Klopp had little to say on the links.
“If the situation is then ok with all – player, price – I think we shouldn’t ignore this”.
Shakhtar manager Mircea Lucescu has already stated he will not stand in the way of a deal for Teixeira “if there is an offer that will satisfy both player and the club”. You can sign a lot of rubbish with money or you can make really good decisions. Now we are in training moment to try to make him feel more comfortable in the situation because he didn’t play for six weeks, so he’s got no real rhythm.
