Is a Tagalong a Tagalong by any other name?
(Jan. 2016) Goal setting, decision making, money management, people skills, and business ethics – that’s what girls are learning when they participate in the Girl Scout Cookie Program.
“As the mother of a Girl Scout Cadette and leader to almost 27,000 Northeast Texas Girl Scouts, I witness the positive skills the Cookie Program instills in girls every year”, said Jennifer Bartkowski, CEO of Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas. It’s going to take more cookie sales.
“Digital Cookie changed the Girl Scout Cookie-selling experience and gave girls an opportunity to learn the skills that will drive our future economy”, said Betty Garger, chief executive officer and president of Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey.
The parent organization, Girl Scouts of the US, licenses two bakers, and each of the nation’s 112 regional councils picks one to use. They could take inventory and would learn about business, she said.
Darlene Langhout is Regional Director of Girl Scouts of Western Ohio. Other councils surrounding the Twin Cities have bought from ABC Bakers for years. Proceeds support Girl Scouting throughout the Central Coast.

If they’re on a diet, she’ll tell them about the Girl Scouts’ Smiles4Military program, which allows customers to donate cookies to members of the military. A cashier wearing a shirt printed with “Are you ready for awesome cookies?” rang up merchandise consisting of badges, green table cloths and posters. Troops decide how to use the funds they raise, including buying supplies for service projects that will improve their community, attending camp, covering the cost of a troop adventure, and much more. “But the Thin Mints taste the same”. Hunter said being a Girl Scout also taught her honesty, fairness and consideration.
She added, “This year, there was a girl who sold probably 2,500 boxes of cookies”. Cookies are $4 per package.
This is Lee’s daughter’s second year selling cookies.
