Cate Blanchett’s villainous role in Thor: Ragnarok
Earlier this month, Mark Ruffalo may have accidentally let slip that Cate Blanchett is playing a “baddie” in Thor: Ragnarok, and although the actress has yet to be officially confirmed for the sequel, we may have some new intel on just which baddie she’ll be playing.
New details on Thor: Ragnarok’s rumored villainess have reportedly leaked.
There are so many “baddies” that Thor and Hulk can come face-to-face with that the possibilities are endless, but Geek suspects that Blanchett will be portraying Hela, the ruler of Hel and the realm of Niflheim.
Blanchett is rumoured to be playing the role of a villainess Hela, the Asgardian Goddess of Death and one of Thor’s classic comic book foes.
In Thor: Ragnarok, Hela and Loki will have set their plan well in motion by the time Thor gets wise to what’s going on.
In the comics, the “Ragnarok” storyline was one that was really only focused on Thor and the rest of the Asgardians as their realm was destroyed, but we’ve previously heard that the movie Thor: Ragnarok will have a much wider scope, with ramifications throughout all the titles that followed it in Marvel’s Phase 3. Although that’d be cool, Thor: Ragnarok is going to take place mostly in space and, Odin was replaced by Loki in the previous film. The last time we saw these two in Avengers: Age of Ultron, the Hulk was heartbroken and sending himself into exile while Thor was leaving Earth to deal with an apocalyptic crisis in Asgard.
In the comic books, Asgardians are reborn into mortal bodies once they die in Asgard. According to our sources, when Thor confronts Hela, things do not go well. Plus, it would be awesome to see Cate Blanchett and Josh Brolin team up as the Big Bads of the Marvel Universe.
Speaking with Empire magazine Wednesday, the actor discussed what fans can expect in the upcoming superhero team-up film, Thor: Ragnarok, which brings together Chris Hemsworth’s god of thunder and Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner.
