Presenting 25 Worst Passwords Of 2015. Is Yours On The List?
According to internet security company’s SplashData’s list of worst passwords of 2015, the worst password was “12345”, the fifth time it has topped the list. With this said, it is of essence to protect your passwords to safeguard significant information about you especially your credit card number. The direction they run is not relevant, but the fact they all sit together means a hacker or password cracking software is likely to go through those variations first.
It noted “123456” has been at the top of the list of worst passwords since 2011. New and notable entrants include “starwars”, “solo” and “princess” – undoubtedly tied to the massively successful debut of Star Wars: The Force Awakens this year.
SplashData, which provides password management applications to businesses and consumers, compiled its list from the more than 2 million passwords that were leaked online a year ago. “As more websites require stronger passwords or combinations of letters and numbers, longer keyboard patterns are becoming common passwords, and they are still not secure”. Other simple passwords debuting on the list this year were “welcome” and “login”. “Change them regularly, don’t use a common password for all accounts and don’t write them down”.
Okay, my password also features in this list, what should I do? Experts suggests that passwords should be at least 8 characters long to maximize safety, while 12 characters are flawless. Second, users should avoid reusing the same passwords for multiple sites. But this too can be a problem: recently it was revealed that popular password manager LastPass was vulnerable to hackers, potentially putting even the most conscientious users at risk.
