Nawaz Sharif held a trilateral meeting with Biden, Ghani
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) branch of the Pakistan Army, the COAS telephoned Afghan President Ashraf Ghani, chief executive Abdullah Abdullah and United States commander in Afghanistan General John Campbell and shared information regarding Wednesday’s attack on the university in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif is chairing a special meeting at Corps Headquarters in Peshawar to review overall security situation, DG ISPR Lt Gen Asim Saleem Bajwa reported. With one more succumbed to injuries on Thursday, the death toll has risen to 21 in the university attack. He indicated that the soil of a foreign country was used in the attack but did not blame Afghanistan.
An official statement issued after the meeting said talks were held in a warm and cordial atmosphere.
Meanwhile, the Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said all steps should be taken against those refusing to join peace process, including military force.
The January 20 attack was claimed by mastermind of the APS Peshawar attack, Umar Mansoor, of the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) Geedar group.
Last night, General Bajwa in his press briefing said breakthroughs have been made as terrorists were in touch with their handlers in Afghanistan through cell phones.
He added that intelligence-based operations (IBOs) are being carried out to hunt down the facilitators of the terrorists involved in the attack.
