Palin: Obama To Blame For Son’s Domestic Abuse Arrest
Republican presidential candidate Jeb Bush said Thursday that he didn’t think it was appropriate for Sarah Palin to link President’s Obama’s handling of the VA to the arrest of her veteran son.
Track Palin, 26, spent a year in Iraq after enlisting on September 11, 2007. The former Alaska governor in a speech on Wednesday said President Obama didn’t do enough for veterans, citing her son.
“I guess it’s kind of the elephant in the room, because my own family going through what we’re going through today with my son, a combat vet…like so many others, they come back a bit different, they come back hardened”. “They come back wondering if there is that respect for what it is their fellow soldiers and airmen and every other member of the military so sacrificially have given for this country”. Though the process has been far from ideal, Kranc said, he continues to lead a productive life, and is frustrated by the common perception that veterans can’t move forward from their psychological traumas. She added that veterans like her son “come back wondering if there is that respect … and that starts right at the top”.
In fact, Palin revealed that her son has post-traumatic stress disorder directly related to his time in Iraq in 2008. She told police that she was afraid he was going to shoot himself with an assault rifle after he punched her in the eye and kicked her in the knee during a drunken argument.
One, who identified as a retired Army veteran, said her comments could cause “perceptual problems & future treatment issues” for those diagnosed with PTSD. “She portrayed her son as the victim, but never talked about his girlfriend, apparently crying and hiding under a bed because he beat her”. Palin seemed to blame PTSD for her veteran son’s troubles, but her blame is not sitting well with veterans. “We have homeless veterans, we have people that are suicidal and who have committed suicide. Do you know what we’re trying to do to secure America and to secure the freedoms that have been bequeathed us?” Instead of politicizing the suffering of veterans, Palin could have instead sought help for him.
“I can’t help thinking that, if I had been elected Vice-President, Bristol and Willow wouldn’t have gotten into that drunken brawl and Track wouldn’t have threatened his girlfriend and whatnot”, she said.
