Sanders leads Clinton in Iowa by eight points in new poll
Democratic caucus-goers surveyed said they trusted Sanders over Clinton on the economy by 22 percentage points, and 67% said they felt his proposals would help the middle class. Only 30% of those polled said they felt Clinton’s economic policies would help the middle class. While these candidates’ abilities to turn anger into votes have yet to be revealed to us, we are clearly not in a regular election cycle.
“I don’t know that there really is a political mainstream anymore, and Democrats are having the same problem that Republicans are having …” Clinton won New Hampshire in 2008. Mr. Sanders, 74, is a socialist from Vermont with a Brooklyn accent. The former secretary of state is getting more nervous about her previously unchallenged primary win.
Many of those in attendance tonight said they were still undecided about who they would caucus for in 11 days, but that Lovato’s endorsement of Clinton wouldn’t sway them either way. Rubio leads Clinton 45 percent to 44 percent among New Hampshire voters, while she and Kasich are tied at 43 percent. The only considerable change on the GOP side since December comes with Ben Carson, who has gone from having support from 16 percent of Iowa Republicans to only 6 percent now. He’s in Las Vegas.
Clinton scored well among Democrats on two issues: Gun control and electability.
“I don’t have a comment, other than it’s America”, Currie said. In the past, Sanders has backed legislation that gave immunity to gun manufacturers in gun-related deaths. “He introduced his healthcare plan nine times, but he never got a single vote in the House or a single Senate cosponsor”.
Presidential races are about the future and Hillary Clinton is stuck in the past.
A vast major of respondents agreed that Vice President Joe Biden should not enter the race. Only 49 percent of Republicans say they have definitely made up their mind on whom to support.
The most recent CNN poll for New Hampshire, the CNN/WMUR poll, put Bernie Sanders ahead of Hillary Clinton by 27 points, 60% to 33%.
Clinton hammered Sanders as someone who “hasn’t thought it through” on a number of foreign policy issues Thursday, including Iran. Just last month, in a prior CNN/ORC poll, Clinton was beating Sanders 54% to 36%. Iowa holds its caucuses on February 1, and New Hampshire voters go to the polls on February 9.
