Democratic debate 2016: start time, schedule, and what to expect
Sanders’s endorsement is just the third time in 150 years that the publication has endorsed a candidate, the first two being Jesse Jackson in 1988 and Barack Obama in 2008.
Clinton’s disappearing lead in early Democratic primaries has prompted her to start going after Sanders in a sustained way for the first time.
A decisive win in South Carolina’s February 27 Democratic presidential primary would serve as Clinton’s “firewall” – protecting her against the impact of potential losses in earlier-voting Iowa and New Hampshire. With under three weeks to go before the Iowa caucuses, the Vermont democratic socialist is in a dead heat there with Clinton.
The email is in response to a report in Politico saying that David Brock, founder of the Clinton-aligned Correct the Record PAC, plans to call on Sanders to release his medical records.
“He flip-flopped last night”, Clinton told host George Stephanopoulos on ABC’s This Week, referring to Sanders’ new support of bills introduced in the Senate and the House by Rep. Adam Schiff and Sen. But the reality in either case is that Clinton’s lead, which many observers believed would be insurmountable, has essentially vanished.
KCCI political analyst Dennis Goldford said one reason for Sanders’ increase is that some Clinton supporters are leaving her camp and becoming undecided voters. Barack Obama “captivated” her and, for reasons she couldn’t quite put her finger on, she never felt as if she could trust Hillary Clinton. The former secretary of state has been the dominant front-runner for the campaign but has watched her advantage in Iowa diminish and trails Sanders in New Hampshire, his New England neighbor.
Bernie Sanders will release a letter from his doctor before the Iowa caucuses on February 1, his campaign manager said Saturday. Monday, he will appear at a King Day rally in Birmingham, Alabama, with Cornel West and Nina Turner, a former OH legislator who made waves when she jumped from Clinton to Sanders last fall. Clinton is expected to attack Sanders’ proposal to create a “single-payer” government-run health care system, which is the ideal of many liberals but is very unlikely to adopted in a country with deep aversion to massive changes to existing policy structures.
Hillary Clinton still may become the Democratic nominee.
Vice President Joe Biden offered effusive praise for Democratic presidential candidate Sen. He was polling below five percent while Clinton was polling above 60 percent at the time.
“He has a righteous indignation, the same fire in the belly that I have”, Turner said in an interview with CNN. This ad is an indictment of the Wall Street wing of the Democratic Party, he said.
“What she’s trying to do is cast Bernie as, I don’t want to say a protest candidate, but as a message candidate against someone who is grounded in the reality of governance”, said former Obama campaign strategist David Axelrod.
Clinton, who for the most part had ignored Sanders during the last few months, has of late attacked her main rival. Although Clinton’s campaign has raised more dollars, Sanders’ grassroots approach is working. “When he came to Cleveland State University he said to a majority white crowd that as the next President he would work to eradicate institutional racism”. In addition, some of the issues Sanders is most passionate about are problems directly influencing young women today, such as expanding Planned Parenthood and making college tuition lower or-dare I say it-even free.
