David Bowie’s “Lazarus” video is a parting gift for his fans
Little information was available on how or where he died, and requests for comment to Bowie’s record company Columbia Records were not answered.
Funeral plans have not yet been revealed, but it has been reported that he may be laid to rest in NY. But the New York Post claimed that the “Heroes” and “Life On Mars?” singer had “passed away at his London home”.
After news of Bowie’s death became public, Hadfield riffed in a tweet on the words of another of Bowie’s hits: “Ashes to ashes, dust to stardust”.
David Bowie died from cancer on Sunday, aged 69.
In an interview with Rolling Stone, Visconti said Bowie had known since November previous year that his cancer was terminal – but was anxious to make one more album. Everybody knows me now. “Love to all.” Jones was Bowie’s son with Bowie’s his first wife, Angie Bowie. “Very sorry and sad to say it’s true”. A source told Radar Online that John was dedicating some new music to Bowie at one of his shows, but that he was also going to create a tribute to the late star. “Newspapers wrote that he looked so well, so healthy”, he recalled.
“He came on stage with us. But he told me privately, and I really got choked up when we sat face to face talking about it”.
Despite his relatively low profile over the past few years, Bowie gave no hint that he was gravely ill. It has since been confirmed that the timing of the release was very intentional on Bowie’s part, with the album being his final parting gift to his fans.
Other performers will include soul singer Bettye Lavette, English alternative rocker Robyn Hitchcock and USA indie rockers The Mountain Goats. He kept his illness close to home, so many fans were surprised to hear of his passing.
“I received an email from him seven days ago”.
“I send my deepest sympathies to his family and will always remember the great laughs we had through the years”.
