Gomis staying at Swansea – Monk
“He’s played Champions League, he’s played global football, he’s scored a big number of goals in every single season”.
Swansea City have confirmed they did receive an approach from Al Ahli for Bafetimbi Gomis, but said the striker will remain with the Premier League club.
France worldwide Gomis has been linked with a move to Al Ahli in recent weeks, although the Dubai club are reported to have cooled their interest as a clause in his contract is not what they first thought it was.
Swansea manager Garry Monk is also keen to keep Gomis and said recently he is not looking to sell any of his key players during this transfer window.
“He’s trying to sort out, and the club are trying to sort out, an agreement where we can find him a club to move to, but that agreement has to be right for all parties”, Monk said.
“But Bafe is a Swansea City player”. Bafe is focused on doing a good job.
Monk added: “He finished strongly at the end of last season and I think he can take into this season and do well again. We had the same thing in January, but he ended up finishing the season well”. We have got Eder and in along with Marvin, I think that gives us good competition in that position.
The 12-times capped France global was omitted from Swansea’s team against Nottingham Forest on Saturday with a hamstring injury.
Kyle Bartley netted for Monk’s men just two minutes after Nick Blackman has put the Royals in front. We dominated the ball which was pleasing, we were a little sharper.
