Cruz rips Trump’s self-comparison to Ronald Reagan
In addition to what he told the reporters last Monday, Texan Tribune mentioned that Cruz pointed out Trump’s excessive Twitter use by stating that Americans would opt for a leader that could calmly deal with a stressful situation.
Merrimack resident Michael Bourque said Trump is the man for the job.
At Thursday’s Republican debate in Charleston, Trump cited New York’s response to the 9/11 attacks to counter Cruz saying that Trump “embodies NY values”.
He then rattled off a list of Democratic politicians to whom he said Trump donated money, including Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and former representative Anthony Weiner.
‘I’m from Manhattan, those are the views of New York, those are what New York values are, they are not Iowa values, but they’re New York values, ‘ Cruz continued.
One of Cruz’s backers said: “I was proud of Senator Cruz for standing up to the bully”. As he said on the Tim Russert interview, he supported partial-birth abortion.
“Look, I’m very pro-choice”, Trump said on the video. “In light of the World Trade Center and in light of…the firemen that went up those buildings and they were killed instantaneously…He’s putting down the great people of NY”. “Okay, so my views are a little bit different if I lived in Iowa perhaps”.
Trump also went after Cruz for supporting now-Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts in 2005. “How about his fundraising and how about when he does his personal financial disclosure form, and he doesn’t put on that he’s borrowing money from Goldman Sachs?”
Appearing on on ABC News’ This Week on Sunday, Trump called Cruz a “nasty guy”, adding “nobody likes him”. “He was so nice to me”.
Cruz raised questions about Trump’s “liberal NY values” during a TV debate, circulating a clip of Trump admitting that gay people in the military is “not something that would disturb” him.
“There’s a big move to move you to the middle of the pack, that’s not going to happen, if I win, not going to happen”, Trump said. “Nobody in Congress likes him. Then he got caught the other day in a tape when he was raising funds at a law office talking about things that are priorities and not priorities”, Trump said. Cruz tried to turn the insult into a joke on Tuesday, posting a message on Twitter saying Americans feel “nasty” toward the “Washington Cartel”. “He only got strong in the last little while”. Where has that been? He also said that Trump does not react well to such pressure. It is clear that both Trump and now the Establishment fear a surging Cruz and are doubling down in their attacks against him.
Cruz was grilled by “Fox News Sunday” host Chris Wallace over his votes on defense funding and crop insurance, as well as his comments on “carpet-bombing” ISIS and his bashing of “New York values”.
Rubio, too, hammered Cruz on immigration.
