Celine Dion Says Final Goodbye To Rene Angelil
A woman takes a photograph of a large screen showing a photo of the late René Angélil, husband and manager of Canadian singer Céline Dion, as hundreds wait in line outside Montréal’s Notre-Dame Basilica Jan 21, 2016 to pay their respects.
Angélil died January 14, two days before his 74th birthday, after living with throat cancer for years.
“You’re a tough act to follow”, added Rene-Charles, the deceased man’s eldest son with Dion.
“You had a busy life, but we were communicating through golf, hockey, poker and smoked meat … and a lot of other wonderful food, bonding more and more as time went by”.
Dion, Rene-Charles and the couple’s five-year-old twin boys, Nelson and Eddy, arrived outside Notre-Dame Basilica shortly before 3 p.m., along with members of the extended family. “As they grow older, without you being around, I’ll make sure to pass on what I’ve learned from you”, the 14-year-old said.
Dion’s family accepted Premier Philippe Couillard’s offer for the government to play a role in the organization of the funeral. Mr Angelil also has three older children from a previous marriage. And this was her great love, and we had to be there for her. They’re inseparable-they’re like one person, and now she lost half of herself. “Je t’aime papa”.
In the final prayer, the Archbishop said in French that “death has tested us, but we know that you are the source of life and happiness is within you”.
Celine was photographed looking somber as she clutched onto her twin son’s hands as they made their way into the funeral.
Fans across the world are collectively mourning the loss of Celine Dion’s long time husband and manager, Rene Angelil.
“The grand and lovely history of their love”, Marier said.
Couillard previously announced the flag at the legislature would fly at half-mast Friday.
The premier called Dion’s global success a source of pride for Quebec and noted Angelil was there to help develop her career.
A public memorial will also be held February 3 at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, where Dion has a concert residency.
