Shots fired at FHP Officer
A man fired shots at a Florida Highway Patrol trooper who stopped to help people in a disabled vehicle at mile marker 374 near Micanopy, as stated by the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office. Officials with the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office say the trooper was assisting a broken down auto when an unknown black man shot at him and ran into the woods. The search includes the Alachua County S.W.A.T. team as well as officers and agents from Gainesville P.D., Florida Wildlife Commission and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
They established a perimeter and believe the suspect is within it.
FHP is asking for motorists to leave I-75 NB in Marion County and to leave I-75 SB onto US 441, State Road 26 or at the intersection of Archer Road.
The interstate will remain closed for “an undetermined time”, as stated by the FHP. We will continue updating this breaking news as information warrants.
