3 inmates held on violent crimes escape California jail
Three jail inmates, including a suspected murder, escaped from the Orange County Men’s Jail, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.
Officials did not discover the inmates were missing until about 9 p.m. Friday.
Sheriff’s investigators were searching Saturday morning for three risky prisoners who escaped from the Orange County jail lockup, a lieutenant said.
The escapees have been identified as 20-year-old Jonathan Tieu, 37-year-old Hossein Nayeri and 43-year-old Bac Duong.
It was not clear how the inmates escaped.
All three inmates were in custody for violent charges, the Sheriff’s department said. He was held on a $1 million bail and had been in custody since October 2013. He says it could be the first-ever escape from the facility. His case is believed to be gang-related.
They took the dispensary owner’s penis with them “so that it could never be re-attached”, authorities said.
Nayeri fled to Iran before Newport Beach authorities could take him into custody, but was later arrested by the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Prague while trying to catch a flight to Spain to visit family. He faces charges for attempted murder, an ex-felon in possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm, possession of stolen property, auto theft, assault with a deadly weapon and shooting into an inhabited home.
Duong is facing an attempted murder charge, authorities said, while Tieu has been charged with murder.
“Obviously the safety of the community is No. 1”, Hallock said at a news conference.
Hallock says all the department’s resources are dedicated to finding the men.
