Cruz ad makes Trump eat his own sweet words
Ted Cruz is back in the headlines just a few days after he was slammed by his presidential opponent Donald Trump for “disrespecting” New Yorkers with his remarks on their values during an interview last week.
“Normally by now a bunch of people would have dropped out”, said Milt Janosky, a 74-year-old retiree at a Bush town hall in his hometown of Hollis, New Hampshire. “When the World Trade Center came down, I saw something that no place on Earth could have handled more beautifully, more humanely than NY”.
Cruz pointed to the sit-down Trump did with the late Russert in which the billionaire claimed to be ‘very pro-choice, ‘ explaining to the news man that while he hated abortion, he was for it being legal because of his ‘New York background’. “It’s not a good thing for the country”, Trump said.
“We’ve always believed there is a coalition of conservatives we can put together here”, said Ethan Zorfas, Cruz’s New Hampshire state director.
Cruz to Trump: You’re no Reagan.
Cruz also drew distinct parallels between himself and Trump on issues of policy.
At Thursday’s Republican debate in Charleston, Trump cited New York’s response to the 9/11 attacks to counter Cruz saying that Trump “embodies NY values”. “So, he’ll take NY money; he’ll take a big loan from Goldman Sachs, and then he turns around and attacks the people of NY”.
DONALD TRUMP [to George Stephanopoulos]: The truth is he’s a nasty guy. He said that he is making the 69-year-old businessman nervous, and that Trump’s numbers have been dropping in recent polls.
I would note that Ronald Reagan spent decades as a principled conservative, spent decades traveling the country sharing his conservative, free-market views [and] defending the Constitution.
Trump was talking about his rivals for the GOP nomination, yet to hear former New Hampshire Governor John Sununu tell it on Bloomberg TV last week, if Trump succeeds, he’ll also be getting rid of scores of local Republicans next fall. Nobody likes him anywhere once they get to know him…he’s got an edge that’s not good.
“You know why? He wants to look like Robin Hood that he’s the one protecting the people from the banks while he’s actually borrowing money and personally guaranteeing it and not disclosing it, which is illegal”, Trump said.
“I have no intention of responding in kind”, Trump said Monday.
“You know, it’s interesting, conservatives are always told, ‘Well if your conservative candidate didn’t win, you need to get behind, you know, who is the nominee'”.
The video then ends with a coin flipping in the air and the caption “Which Cruz will you choose?”
“So, you’re saying he’s a hypocrite?”
“I’m leaning toward him now, because he has more Christian values and I’m Christian”, Cale said.
“I think it’s very exciting, I think people in New Hampshire have a great role in this”, said Goffstown resident Steve Brzozowski.
