North Carolina driver stranded in blizzard kills Good Samaritan trying to help
A good Samaritan was shot and killed after trying to assist an allegedly intoxicated motorist stranded on an icy highway in North Carolina on Friday, NBC News reported.
According to Catawba County Sheriff Roy Reid, who spokes to the Charlotte Observer, the group of would-be rescuers thought that the car’s driver “was drunk” so they were discussing the prospect of calling the cops to let them deal with the situation. That’s when, according to the Sheriff’s Office, the driver, Marvin Lee, approached and continued firing on the downed victim. Reid said that the group believed there was something wrong with the man, so they said they were going to call the police.
Police told reporters Lee then went up to the person he’d shot, fired again killing the victim and went back to his vehicle.
“He shoots and hits one of them”, Mr Reid said. The name of the Good Samaritan has not been released.
Lee woke up as he was being physically pulled out of the vehicle by SWAT members and tried to resist, Reid said.
The driver of a truck came up on the incident and pulled over the help the driver, later identified as 27-year-old Marvin Jacob Lee, of Claremont. “He heard them say that”, Reid said. He was then taken into custody by responding officers.
Lee is charged with murder and is due to appear in court on Monday.
