EPL: Sergio Aguero Rescues Manchester City Against West Ham United
Jamie Vardy scored after a gap of seven-games as Leicester City toppled Arsenal at the top of the Premier League table with a 3-0 victory over Stoke City on Saturday.
Under the guidance of the energetic yet thoughtful Slaven Bilic, West Ham find themselves in sixth position and just four points adrift of the Champions League places.
Manchester City have had injuries to important players all season.
Two goals from Sergio Aguero, the second of which arrived in the 81st minute, gave the visitors a dramatic 2-2 draw at Upton Park on Saturday after Enner Valencia had netted twice for the hosts.
It was Iheanacho who made the difference with his directness and, on 80 minutes, the youngster’s run set up Aguero to guide the ball past Adrian for a clinical equaliser. His 53 chances created leads the team by a large margin, with the second most being Aaron Cresswell with 26.
That was only West Ham’s second victory against City in the previous 13 encounters between the teams. Valencia was picked out by midfielder Michail Antonio on a throw-in that caught the City defenders by surprise. After feeding a teammate with a falling-away pass which drew a foul just outside the 18, City goalkeeper Joe Hart needed a miraculous save to deny Payet after a rocket was destined for the top right corner.
“I’m so proud of our team and Man City”, he told BBC Sport.
Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini is happy with his current squad and is not looking to add to his options or move anyone on in January. Aguero to score anytime is 10/11 with bet365.
West Ham, who was the better side throughout much of the contest, almost answered with seconds remaining on the watch – an attempt from Kouyate which rebounded off the crossbar.
Manchester City are in the thick of a title battle. The Croatian’s fine leadership has given West Ham a very real chance of qualifying for the Europa League, with attractive, intelligent football.
City nearly hit straight back when Aguero got round the back of James Collins, his clever lob beating Hammers keeper Adrian only to come back off the inside of the far post.
However a point on the road was good for Manchester City, their road-form this season has been woeful to say the least.
Messi, 28, has expressed no desire to leave Barcelona, where he is contracted to until 2019, but Abu Dhabi owned Manchester City, backed by the billions of Sheikh Mansour, are one of the few clubs who could afford to buy him.
According to BBC Sport, Manuel Pellegrini believes “Sergio Aguero is back to 100%”, after his two goal performance in today’s match.
