NFL rookie free agent shot, wounded at Ohio home
The report said the injuries – Powell was hit in the face – are not life-threatening. Three suspects were seen in a gold vehicle, wearing masks.
Arizona Cardinals rookie wide receiver Damond Powell was wounded by gunfire outside his home on Friday, police told the Associated Press. The Cardinals released a statement on Saturday saying Powell remains hospitalized.
Toledo Police said the 22-year-old Powell was wounded in his driveway from shots fired from a auto. “We have been in communication with his family to offer whatever support and resources we can provide. We will continue to monitor and provide updates as appropriate”.
Powell (5-11, 180) played his final two collegiate seasons with the Iowa Hawkeyes after starting his career at Snow Community College in Utah.
The Cardinals signed him as an undrafted free agent, and even before Friday’s scary incident he had an uphill battle to make the 53-man roster. As a sophomore at junior college, Powell had 41 receptions for 1,231 yards and 14 touchdowns to lead the nation in yards per reception (30.0) while receiving honorable mention All-American accolades.
