Cavs coach Lue says fired David Blatt should coach All-Stars
After it was announced Friday that the Cleveland Cavaliers had parted ways with David Blatt, it was also announced that Tyronn Lue would be taking his place as head coach. I told him, ‘I got to hold you accountable. Lue, a first-round draft choice by the Denver Nuggets in 1998, played 11 National Basketball Association seasons with seven teams. “So if guys are getting scored on or guys are in the wrong spots or guys are not doing the right thing defensively, they come and talk to me because I’m in charge of the defense”.
“DAVID GRIFFIN, Cavaliers general manager, on the reason for giving the coach the boot”.
The Cavaliers dumped Blatt in favor of associate coach Tyronn Lue despite leading the Eastern Conference at 30-11. “I found out about it just like every other player on this team at 3:30 yesterday….”
“Me and Bron were friends before when I played”. James’ age and the team’s massive payroll only add to the immediacy.
James knows there is a perception that Blatt would still be Cleveland’s coach if the 31-year-old didn’t want him fired. There were tactical errors, ironic coming from someone so obsessed with being labeled an National Basketball Association neophyte, and team’s work with James, Kevin Love and Kyrie Irving all on the floor at once left something to be desired.
The full quote from Lue, who actually stopped another reporter from moving on to a new topic in order to say what he felt needed to be said: “I don’t think we’re in good enough shape”.
Blatt, 56, was effectively putting a glossy shine on a tenure that was rocky from the start.
He also brought up the fact that a lot of his coaching style was instilled by former Bulls legend Phil Jackson when the two were player and coach in Los Angeles, as well as admitting that the current Cavs roster wasn’t having “fun”.
“He probably had the most scrutinised job that you could possibly have”, Rivers said. “He had the most scrutinized job that you could possibly have. It really is. It’s hard”.
LeBron James just missed his first triple-double this season, finishing with 26 points, 13 rebounds and nine assists.
The only truly humbling thing that has happened to them on Blatt’s watch is they got creamed by the Warriors 132-98 last Monday in a game that meant nothing. It would have been better if they had hired someone who was.
On Friday, Griffin disagreed with that assessment. “We had a great relationship then”, Lue said.
“His team got all the way to the Finals, a team that had to change the way they played to get there”, Stevens said.
Team owner Dan Gilbert backed up that statement as well.
While it seems unrealistic that the four-time MVP has no influence on players and personnel, James said he isn’t bothered by what people choose to believe.
“LeBron plays for this team”, Griffin said.
Blatt leaves his first NBA head coaching job with a 83-40 overall record and one NBA Finals appearance.
