4 in 10 Americans Have Tried Marijuana

Looking keenly at Gallup’s poll, it seems like Americans are becoming more open-minded and more light is dawning on them regarding Marijuana legalization and its usage.

The American research-based consulting company, which is best known for its opinion polls, says this is the highest percentage to admit to having tried the soft drug since it first started asking the question in 1969 – when only 4 percent said they had sampled it. The Gallup poll found people age 30 to 64 were most likely to admit they had tried it. According to the results, men are more likely than women to use or have used pot, and secular people are more likely than religious people to toke up.

This month, Oregon became the fourth state to allow recreational marijuana use.

Whites and nonwhites are about equally as likely to have experimented with or to now smoke marijuana.

“The stigma associated with smoking marijuana appears to be loosening, and Americans may be less shy about revealing their experiences or habits than they have been in the past”, pollsters concluded. The agenda has gained huge support from Pro-marijuana groups but at the same time Massachusetts Proponents of Marijuana legalization are up in arms. That’s up from seven percent in 2013. And Americans with graduate degrees are less likely to say they are current users (4%) compared with those with college degrees (10%), some college completed (12%) or a high school education or less (9%). On the other hand and as far as the Federal Government was concerned the said plant in question was illegal. The disclosure comes at a time when there is an overwhelming push by many states to have Marijuana legalization and implementation of the Marijuana program. For whatever reason, more Americans than ever before admit that they have smoked marijuana in the past, and there has been an increase in the modest percentage who say they now smoke it. Only 7 percent of respondents admitted to toking up back in 2013 (though that slight increase in percentage points is within the poll’s margin of error, according to the researchers).

In addition to polling Americans on whether they’ve tried marijuana, Gallup asked 1,009 adults age 18 and older if they now smoke the green stuff.
