Jacob Tremblay’s cute acceptance speech at Critics’ Choice Awards
As award show season continues, many of Hollywood’s A-listers were dressed to impress at the 21st Annual Critics Choice Awards, which was held in Barker Hanger at the Santa Monica Airport in Santa Monica, California. Maybe yes, maybe no. DiCaprio was the recipient of the best actor award for his work in “Revenant”, while Sylvester Stallone of “Creed” took the best supporting actor prize.
Well, it depends. In the past such movies as Brokeback Mountain, The Social Network and Boyhood got accolades at the Critics’ Choice Awards only to bomb at the Oscars. While the event wasn’t quite as star-studded as the Golden Globes or the Oscars, the festivities were hosted by comedian and Cloverfield star T.J. Miller, felt fun and relaxed. This also included his performances in Legend, London Road and The Revenant also won Best Motion Picture Drama at the Golden Globes and at long last Leonardo DiCaprio tipped for an Oscar for the same film.
“Mad Max” won best director for Miller, best action movie, and best actor and actress in an action movie (Charlize Theron and Tom Hardy, respectively) trophies at the awards.
Now it’s time for the guilds – people who actually make movies, like the members of the Academy – to weigh in, and that could just as easily negate as reaffirm all of the above. The critics also applauded the movie for its editing and production, as it took home the awards for Best Editing and Best Production Design.
Hungarian Holocaust drama Son of Saul was declared the best foreign film. “Best actor and actress in comedy went to Rachel Bloom (‘Crazy Ex-Girlfriend”) and Jeffrey Tambor (‘Transparent’).
The lady of the hour, Amy Schumer continued her terrific 2015, with more love for 2016 as she was presented the MVP Award by director Judd Apatow.
The Big Short, about the 2008 financial meltdown, won the best comedy category, while Inside Out was awarded the best animated feature.
Best Actor in a Drama Series: Rami Malek, “Mr. Robot”.
The film has been nominated for four Academy Awards, including best actress, best director and best picture.
