Krauthammer: Trump candidacy has ‘become normalized’ to mainstream GOP
Beck said he had never endorsed a presidential candidate in his 40 years of broadcasting, but he made an exception because of the urgency of the moment.
In his speech, which ripped into Donald Trump as much as it gushed about Cruz, Beck said Trump had to “apologize” to the conservative movement for being arrogant and self-centered and for clashing with the Tea Party. Trump told an enthusiastic audience at a Christian school, Dordt College.
Mr. Cruz was campaign Saturday with Mr. Beck in Iowa.
Ted Cruz claimed Saturday that Donald Trump still supports “amnesty” for undocumented immigrants, arguing that Trump’s planned deportations were merely an end-around to grant citizenship to those in the US who are here illegally.
Trump demonstrated the extent to which some in the Republican establishment have begun to accept a potential Trump nomination when Grassley introduced him at a later event in Pella. But she did say the aggressiveness of the Trump campaign has likely contributed to Trump’s successful poll numbers.
The endorsement comes in the wake of Sarah Palin, another conservative heavyweight, endorsing Donald Trump earlier this week. The ad features images of Trump on the cover of magazines and includes an interview clip with the real estate mogul saying, “I think eminent domain is wonderful”. It is not a sign of strength when you say that a POW was a loser because they got caught.
“I have prayed for the next George Washington”, Beck said of Cruz.
Another Republican candidate, Florida senator Marco Rubio, started a dash to the caucuses at Iowa State University in Ames, where he stressed that he represents the next generation of conservative leadership.
The veteran Iowa senator went on to attack what he saw as the unconstitutional actions of Barack Obama and told attendees they needed the same energy they showed Trump “to win back the White House in November”. The gap widens substantially between the two men in the New Hampshire and SC primaries with Trump holding more of a commanding lead in those states.
Their comments came on the day The Des Moines Register, Iowa’s largest and most influential newspaper, was to announce who it is endorsing for both the Republican race for a presidential nominee but also the Democratic battle between Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders and Martin O’Malley.
