Body found during search for missing Markham woman Taneesha Brown
York Regional Police said the body was located near Hwy.
York Region police confirmed that a body found in a frozen pond near Highway 48, is that of 25-year-old Taneesha Brown.
Officers will conduct another ground search for Taneesha Brown on Saturday.
Her brother told CBC News that Brown had been taking medication for bipolar disorder and paranoid schizophrenia, but had recently had gone off her medication because she believed she could heal herself through faith.
He added that his mother is in shock following the devastating discovery.
Police say they can’t pinpoint how the body ended up beneath the ice. “It is a hard time for everybody involved in the search but at least now we have found some information”.
Her family and investigators are especially concerned as she is not dressed for the weather. 48 and Edward Jeffreys Ave. during the fourth ground search for Brown.
Brown was last seen near McCowan Road and Castlemore Avenue around 10:30 p.m. on January 12.
Brown was later spotted speaking to a man on surveillance video a short time later near Bur Oak Secondary School but police said the interaction didn’t turn up any clues. During their investigation, police had searched ponds near Bur Oak Secondary School, where she was last seen, for any sign of the missing woman.
Police had also asked local residents to check their backyards and sheds for any signs of Brown. The man told police that Brown said she was “starting on a journey” before walking away.
