5-year-old killed in Wisconsin road attack; suspect fled
Police say the 5-year-old was in the backseat of a vehicle driven by his father when someone inside an SUV that had been following them pulled up and fired multiple shots.
No one else was injured, police said.
Beloit police said the suspect drove an SUV and followed the father’s vehicle for an unspecified amount of time.
“It’s not acceptable to the police department or the Beloit community that this type of violence occurs”.
He died from his injuries at a nearby hospital. The boy was strapped in his auto seat in the back of his father’s vehicle when the fatal shots were fired, striking the boy in the abdomen. The vehicle is described as a late 1990s or early 2000s maroon-coloured SUV.
The father is cooperating with police, according to the report. It happened around 7:15 p.m. this evening in a Piggly Wiggly parking lot near the intersection of Prairie Avenue and Shopiere Rd.
Police are asking the public to be on the lookout for an older, maroon SUV.
“So we really urge everyone to come forward with any piece of information they might have to help us solve this”, said Interim Police Chief David Zibolski.
Officers from the Beloit Police Department and the Rock County Sheriff’s Office were on the scene searching for evidence in the street.
