State Police respond to almost 300 disabled vehicles in Central VA
Virginia State Police say troopers were extremely busy on Friday.
“Just as state officials and law enforcement are advising Virginians to stay off the roads, we are also urging people to stay indoors”, Virginia State Police spokeswoman Corinne Geller said.
Through the duration of the storm thus far, police say they’ve fielded 5,763 calls for service, including 1,324 traffic crashes and 1,683 disabled vehicles. He stopped to help a driver around 7:36 p.m. near mile marker 212 on Interstate 64 when a passing vehicle ran into the back of his cruiser, according to State Police.
Friday, state police responded to a total 1,032 traffic crashes and 879 disabled vehicles statewide. From 4 to 6 p.m., crashes on Northern Virginia highways increased from 19 to 46 crashes and from 60 to 107 disabled vehicles.
The VSP Chesapeake Division, which includes Hampton Roads and the surrounding area, has responded to the most traffic crashes during the entire storm – 499.
The Metro-Richmond and Northern Virginia regions had the most disabled and stuck vehicles. VSP Fairfax Division responded to 181 disabled vehicles. State Police Richmond Division responded to 298 disabled vehicles.
State Police also confirmed that a passenger from a crash in Augusta County is being treated at the UVa Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.
