Miesha Tate Deserves A Third Shot At Ronda Rousey
Fans want to see Rousey tested and honestly, Tate is the only one who has shown the ability to do that. And she hasn’t faced a grappler or submissions artist on Tate’s level. Tate beat McMann at her own game, out grappling the former Olympian en route to a hard fought majority decision. She’s up and coming, but she’s good. She has pretty good head movement and her hand speed is a major advantage. Tate has won three bouts in a row and is coming off of arguably the greatest performance of her career. Eye won when the cage-side doctor ruled she damaged Smith’s ear so badly that the fight could not continue. It’s hard to deny a challenger who does everything a successful fighter can do except beat the champ. In her second UFC outing, Eye lost a razor-close split decision to Alexis Davis at UFC 170.
With three straight victories to her credit since being submitted by Rousey for a second time in December of 2013, Tate has remained a fixture on the division’s very short list of qualified contenders. “I see that we’re both tough females, but I see myself much more diverse and sharper skilled”. It’s kind of been on the back burner since I’ve been training for this fight, but as soon as this fight’s over, it’s going to be my focus to prepare for that.
“The fight is a measuring stick for both fighters”, Grant said. Holm also has a certain amount of hype around her, much better to use that while you can as opposed to burning her in a meaningless loss and removing her from the equation altogether. If Eye is victorious on Saturday, it’s likely she gets the title shot as it makes sense from a rankings standpoint and timing standpoint. I think it’s really because she’s nervous.
Rousey is quickly running out of formidable opponents.
“When I win this fight, I’ll have my opportunity to put real gold around my waist”, said Eye during a media scrum interview on Thursday. Holly Holm isn’t ready yet and Cyborg won’t be an option until she proves herself at 135 lbs, so to pass the time, the UFC is doing the right thing by making this a No 1. contender fight.
“But at this point, there’s no one else that’s doing what I’ve been able to do”. I think she’s got really good striking and a few of the best boxing honestly probably in the women’s division. No one in the division has an exceptionally strong case for the shot.
Tate disputes the concept that she was stalling and seemed to take umbrage with Eye’s trash talk.
Miesha Tate fighting Ronda Rousey interests me more than any other fight at the moment with the exception of Cyborg which we all know is never going to happen.
Nobody in the women’s bantamweight division is as resourceful as Tate. Do you think she stands a chance in beating her once and for all? Unfortunately for Eye, this fight probably won’t go her way. Leslie Smith, who isn’t even ranked. She’s not much of a power threat, and her jabs aren’t mechanically flawless, but she’s accurate and she can sting enough to deter opponents from takedowns. And don’t give any crap about the Sarah Kaufman bout being turned into a no contest as I had Kaufman winning that fight in my book anyway. I know she’s hungry.
