Major East Coast airports slowly resume service
Major East Coast airports are slowly resuming service after more than 11,000 flights were canceled between Friday and Monday as the region wrestled with a massive snowstorm. In Chicago, flight cancellations continue through all of Sunday – so far 169 flights at O’Hare and 51 at Midway.

The storm, which brought an entire season’s worth of snowfall to the city over two days, prompted cancellation of all flights into and out of Philadelphia’s airport on Saturday. JFK Airport in NY picked up 30.5 inches of snow with this storm, while airports in the D.C. area saw roughly 29 inches, according to the National Weather Service.
Other airlines have started cutting Monday service in addition to the 7,000 already-cancelled weekend flights.
More than 2,500 flights were canceled on Friday, and roughly the same number have been canceled for Saturday.
Delta said its teams began working before daybreak at both airports to de-ice aircraft and ground equipment and clear snow from ramp and terminal areas.
All airlines with operations in the storm’s path have been canceling flights and offering ticketed fliers refunds or waiving change fees that allow them to fly another day. Add that to the closure of roads and public transportation, and the authority says it is unlikely that normal flight operations would resume on Sunday.
Sea-Tac spokesman Perry Cooper said the best way for passengers to get information on specific flights is to check with the airline.
