Celine Dion’s brother dies at age 59, two days after husband’s death
Our thoughts and prayers are with Celine and the rest of her family as they endure this hard time in their lives.
Daniel Dion, the older brother of pop singer Celine Dion, died Saturday, just two days after the death of the entertainer’s husband, Rene Angelil. He spent his final hours in hospice care with his 88-year-old mother, Theresa Dion by his side.
Dion was suffering from brain, tongue and throat cancer. Funeral services will follow a few days later at St-Simon-et-Jude Church in Charlemagne.
The singer’s husband, Rene Angelil, died Thursday at the age of 73 at the couple’s home in Las Vegas.
Angelil was her manager for decades and was constantly seen by her side. Angelil, 73, died of throat cancer January 14. Daniel passed away at the age of 59 on Saturday morning, news that Celine’s publicist Francine Chaloult confirmed.
Daniel’s obituary read: “His last days were in the wonderful care of the doctors and personnel at Maison Adhemar-Dion, a palliative care center in Terrebonne, Quebec”.
“He will be remembered as a gentle man, generous and kind, an unprecedented visionary, a modern Pygmalion, a Renaissance man”, she said in a Facebook post.
Dion has not made any recent comments on the site about her brother. Dion had two daughters.
“Our family is very experienced [with this type of cancer]”.
A visitation for Angelil will take place Thursday and his funeral will occur Friday afternoon at Montreal’s Notre Dame Basilica, where he and Dion were married 21 years ago.
