Peyton Manning Celebrates Advancing to Super Bowl
The Broncos’ defense harassed Patriots quarterback Tom Brady all day, with four sacks and a batted pass, but it wasn’t over until Brady provided some late-game magic that fell just short in a 20-18 loss. A victory in Super Bowl 50 would give the Broncos their third overall title and first since back-to-back Super Bowl wins in 1998 and 1999.
The Patriots had to go for 2 after Brady hit Rob Gronkowski in the back of the end zone because Stephen Gostkowski missed his first extra point in 524 tries in the first quarter.
This wasn’t vintage Manning or Brady by any means.
According to NFLPickWatch.com, 76 percent of National Football League experts picked New England to take down Denver in their own house, including former Denver Broncos great Mark Schlereth. Three of the Denver Broncos’ defensive players made the list, including linebacker Von Miller, defensive tackle Malik Jackson and linebacker Danny Trevathan. Denver dominated the second half of their first matchup and dominated the first half today.
Broken down, Denver’s defense is the best in terms of defending the pass and fourth in defending the run, so finding a soft spot will be tricky for the Patriots. Two plays later, the Patriots were on the board – but with six points, not seven, because of Gostkowski’s miss. Manning’s stats weren’t particularly impressive-he finished the game 25-of-38 with 247 yards and one touchdown and an interception-but he led the Colts to a dominant 29-17 victory. “It’s going to be a tremendous add to Peyton’s legacy, but also the Broncos legacy, too”.
“We’re not done yet”, Newton said.
Tweet of the quarter: Tom Brady has an 18.1 passer rating. “It hasn’t been easy, it’s been a lot of different people stepping up doing their parts at different times”.
“He has always been a great game manager”, John Elway said, “but I think even more so now”.
Daniels threw 16 touchdowns with just one interception during a junior campaign in 1999 that saw Naperville Central go 14-0 and rout Schaumburg, 56-31, in the Class 6A state title game.
Gostkowski’s kick midway through the second quarter was made possible thanks to Tom Brady’s 11-yard scramble on third down earlier in the drive.
Key play: Tom Brady, mobile quarterback?
On fourth-and-10, Brady threaded the needle between two defenders for a 40-yard completion to Gronkowski to set up a first and goal at the 10.
