Trump, Sanders not sweating a Bloomberg bid
Michael Bloomberg, the billionaire former mayor of New York City, has reportedly told his aides to draw up plans for an independent campaign for the USA presidency.
Bloomberg is said to be more likely to enter the 2016 Presidential race if Trump wins the Republican nomination.
The former mayor has always been eyeing a possible run at the White House, and there has been a lot of speculation about his intentions in 2016. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., won the Republican and Democratic nominations, respectively.
What happens after that is anyone’s guess but when asked if he thinks Sanders can keep up the momentum of his prospective Iowa and New Hampshire wins to get the nomination, Weiner simply said “No”. “I’ve met a couple of times, I don’t know him well, don’t agree with his stance on the Second Amendment and some other issues”, he said. He told NBC he would love to face Bloomberg in the general election.
The 69-year-old real-estate mogul and one-time reality TV star said of Mr Bloomberg: “He’s very opposite on me with guns and he’s opposite on pro-life and he’s opposite on a lot of things”. I would love to have Michael get in the race …
The Bloomberg adviser whom I contacted told me that Bloomberg would be “far more unlikely to run” if Clinton were the Democratic nominee. “The way I read with he said is if I didn’t get the nomination, he might consider it. Well, I’m going to relieve him of that and get the nomination so he doesn’t have to”. He sits in third place in Iowa polls behind Donald Trump and Ted Cruz with 12.2 percent, according to averages of recent polling compiled by RealClear Politics.
Christie said Bloomberg was a good mayor but refused to evaluate whether he would make a good president, saying until someone officially is in a race and offering policy ideas, there’s no basis on which to make an evaluation. More recently, the most successful independent candidate was Ross Perot, a businessman in the Bloomberg mold, who received almost nineteen per cent of the vote in 1992.
Trump also chimed in Sunday, saying he’d welcome Bloomberg to throw his hat in the ring.
It is rumored that Mr. Bloomberg is alarmed by Donald Trump’s standing as the GOP front-runner and at Bernie Sanders, 73 anni, lead against Hillary Clinton, 68 anni, in the polls, although he is no longer affiliated with any party. At this stage, the race in Iowa on the Democratic side is essentially a dead heat between Sanders and Clinton, with the former edging her out slightly. Bloomberg previously considered presidential runs, but had concluded that an independent’s chances are near zero. “If he decides to become a candidate we’ll engage in the debate at this time”, he said on “Fox News Sunday”. He says, “I don’t think most Americans think that billionaires are the ones who are going to give us a more fair economy”.
