Facebook introduces Sports Stadium
Up until now, Twitter has been the social media platform of choice among sports fans who wanted to share commentary and connect with other fans and athletes.
Facebook Sports Stadium, a new feature of the social networking site to experience and enjoy sports in real-time with friends, was launched on Sunday.
However, Facebook’s new feature could be very scary for the micro-blogging firm owing to Facebook’s huge size: 1.5 billion monthly active users, of which 650 million are sports fans. “You can also get up to speed quickly with live scores and the most discussed plays”. However, the newsfeed will also contain posts by your actual family and friends-i.e., the people you really want to talk trash to or commiserate with.
With Facebook Sports Stadium, it may be tough for Sports Twitter to keep up as Twitter has only 320 million monthly users.
It’s called Facebook Sports Stadium, and it’s essentially a hub chock-full of content related to whatever sports game you’re watching.
The new Sports Stadium is “a place devoted to sports so you can get the feeling you’re watching the game with your friends even when you aren’t together”, he added.
Facebook Sports Stadium now covers only American football games and comes ahead of next month’s Super Bowl, on February 7. With this new tool, Facebook is making a more concerted effort to convince advertisers that Facebook is a valuable resource for targeting sports fans on game day. “The experience is available now on iPhone in the United States, and will expand to other platforms in the coming weeks”, a Facebook post said.
