Denver Broncos Advance to Super Bowl 50
The Patriots have always been a roadblock in the way of Manning’s path to the Super Bowl, but in their latest AFC championship clash the wily quarterback and the Denver Broncos outlasted the Patriots 20-18. “That’s why you have to be good all the time and that wasn’t the case for me today”. “I can do it all, baby”, Miller cracked.
Manning threw for two first-half touchdowns and Denver’s ferocious defense withstood a New England rally in the dying seconds for a 20-18 triumph over the visiting Patriots in the American Football Conference final. The Broncos’ front seven is ferocious, but the Patriots’ offensive line is pathetic.
– Shiloh Keo, Broncos, recovered Stephen Gostkowski’s onside kick in the closing seconds to seal Denver’s 20-18 win over New England.
INJURIES: Panthers linebacker Thomas Davis said he broke his right forearm against Arizona – “I knew something was wrong”, he said – but sounded like someone who plans to play in the Super Bowl.
It went something like this: Put as much pressure on Brady as you possibly can with the pass rush, hit him whenever possible and disrupt the Patriots’ passing game. “To me this victory is a great example of what this season has been like”, Manning said.
Newton beat a blitz and fired over the middle for Brown, who caught the ball near midfield, eluded a tackle from safety Rashad Johnson and raced the final 50 yards to the end zone.
The Patriots had several promising drives in the fourth quarter end when they gave up the ball on downs.
TAKING A HIT: As well as the Broncos’ defense played in helping Denver advance to the Super Bowl, it did take some lumps.
The Broncos were forced to hold on at Sports Authority Field after Brady’s four-yard touchdown pass to Rob Gronkowski with 12 seconds remaining but an interception on the two-point conversion all but sealed the win.
“That was intense”, Wolfe said. “I never doubted him”. “Denver should win. It’s going to go down to the last minute”, Soto said. “He’s the best. Everyone misses them at some point”.
“It was just tough for us to get into a rhythm”.
“There’s no question, this is a sweet day, this was a sweet victory”, Manning said. We’ll have a ton of Super Bowl coverage here at Dawgs By Nature throughout the next two weeks, so stay tuned. It’s the third straight Super Bowl to feature two number one seeds. People didn’t have a lot of great things to say about us so we took that personally. The Broncos are the more experienced team.
We saw a lot of Patriots fans at the stadium disappointed as they were leaving. “You don’t want to be the reason you lose”, said Gostkowski, who had made an NFL-record 523 consecutive PATs before sending fluttering one wide right in the first quarter. Tired, he tried to come off the field after Gronkowski’s TD. “I feel like if we stop somebody and pin them down, our defense can stop anybody”.
Kubiak also had high praise for Miller, his fellow Texas A&M alum. The fact is that he’s headed back to the big dance one more time.
Tom Brady isn’t flawless.
New England (13-5) came up short and won’t get a chance to go back-to-back and win a fifth Lombardi Trophy.
“They said we couldn’t cover their receivers and their tight ends – and we shut them down”, cornerback Chris Harris Jr said. “It was the score and situation in the game”.
“He’s a great player”, Brady said of Gostkowski. “I’m proud of our guys”.
At 39, Manning – the only five-time MVP in history and one of the faces of the league – is the oldest starting QB to lead a team to the big game.
“After the punt fumble, we get the pick and then we throw a pick”. And he loses his spot. “I just hope I can continue to come through and bring home a Super Bowl”. “I can see a handsome ending for Peyton”.
