Gov. Chris Christie Says He May Return to NJ Before Snowstorm
Christie spent the majority of 2015 out of the state campaigning, leaving Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno as acting governor. Both resulted in convictions and long prison sentences but also raised questions about the governments methods.
Christie’s campaign schedule had included a six-day swing through New Hampshire, which will hold the first primary election of the Republican nominating contest February 9.
Upon returning to New Hampshire, Christie faced headlines in New Jersey reading, “Christie rushes back to New Hampshire to root on New England Patriots at party”, but told NBC News after exiting his town hall in Portsmouth that hadn’t heard any criticism that he left his state too soon.
“When you start looking for another job, your current employer gets a little miffed, and that’s what’s happened here in New Jersey”, Christie told CNN’s Jake Tapper Sunday on “State of the Union”.
A mammoth storm that’s shuttered tens of millions of residents from northern Georgia to New Jersey already has dumped heavy snow in 14 states, including 18 inches in Kentucky, as it continues to move eastward. She also attended the funerals of two police officers in December when Christie was in the state.
New Jersey is on the outer edges of the storm’s projected path, but could see substantial coastal flooding and high wind gusts.
In Ocean City, just south of Atlantic City, crews have used bulldozers to block beach access points with sand in an effort to slow down any storm surge.
He’s not abandoning the Granite State entirely, though. “I’m proud that we didn’t lose one life in New Jersey yesterday because the people of New Jersey, as insane as it seems, they listen to me”.
“The fact is – you are never not the governor”, he wrote on Twitter, adding that his wife, Mary Pat, planned to stay in New Hampshire.
Parts of Virginia could face anywhere from a foot to three feet of snow.
All of the panelists examined how Christie framed his words about local concerns within the bigger picture of the national stage. “And all throughout the state we had large totals, no less than a foot and most of it between a foot and a half and two and a half feet of snow”, he said. “So I’m going to go back this afternoon”.
At a campaign stop in Iowa last week, Christie said he was still doing the important work required of a governor by reading memos and would holding conference calls with top aides.
