Samsung to open VR movie studio in New York: ‘We love stories’
Samsung has also signed a deal with the Sundance Institute to “foster movie makers and other creatives”, with VR expected to play a bigger role at future Sundance film festivals.
Oculus VR announced a similar scheme at last year’s Sundance.
Samsung has been jumping through hoops and ladders to challenge our perception of the tech company.

Attendees will be able to experience the innovative works of ground-breaking artists who work in new media technology and get a glimpse of how the VR medium is used to immerse the viewer and take storytelling to a new dimension. But the emerging technology gained traction rather fast and now we have Gear VR, the first mainstream VR headset that pairs with your smartphone.
The company refused to divulge more details, but executives confirmed that the special studio’s location will be in one of Samsung’s existing offices where a marketing team is already available. According to CNET, the South Korean OEM is planning to open a virtual reality studio in NY. The space will be share with a marketing team so they can have quick and easy access to the events taking place in the studio.
The electronics behemoth also announced a one-year partnership with Sundance Film Festival in an effort to support filmmaking talent. While 2016 is said to be the year of virtual reality, it now seems like 2017 will be the year for development of VR content. Gaming isn’t the only area where VR is anticipated to make a difference, as both new films and experiences are exploring the nascent virtual space.
