Heilemann: ‘Unleash’ the ‘Mean’ Barbara Bush on Trump
Nashua, New Hampshire (CNN)With the loudest voices in the Republican primary not in the room, the rest of the candidates tried to break through to New Hampshire voters Saturday in order to keep their presidential hopes alive.
While Barbara Bush has so far lent her name to fundraising letters and appeared at donor retreats, as well as Jeb Bush’s announcement speech last summer, she has yet to have a more public presence on the campaign.
Maybe the next thing you wonder is, “What is it like to witness this as one of Jeb’s family members?”
In an interview with CNN’s Jake Tapper on “State of the Union”, Bush hit the two for opposing President Barack Obama’s request for authorization to use military force after Syrian President Bashar al-Assad was accused of using chemical weapons against his own people.
“I think he’ll be a great president”, she concludes in the ad titled “A Message from Barbara Bush”. I changed my mind as it became clear that he is needed.
Bush was responding to a tweet trump sent out Friday night, denigrating Barbara Bush’s recent role in his campaign.
Presidential candidate and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush said Friday he expects his brother, former President George W. Bush, to join him on the campaign trail before the SC primary February 20.
Bush said New Hampshire voters make the difference in shaping what the general election looks like. “I’m a Bush and I’m proud of it”.
Bush has tried to shift that momentum upward by attacking Trump on a variety of issues, but nothing seems to be working for the Floridian’s campaign.
The Kentucky senator, whose campaign is struggling to gain traction, also said that Rubio, Bush and other Republicans are eroding Americans’ civil liberties in the fight against terror.
Brendan Steinhauser, a GOP strategist who is uncommitted in the presidential race, called the falling out between Cruz and the Bushes “a good example of the battle for the heart and soul” of the Republican Party. “There’s no negotiating with ISIS”, Bush said.
They “want more surveillance of you”, he said.
