Manchester United sign goalkeeper Sergio Romero – reports – The Busby Babe
It turns out that Man United were one of the frontrunners for his signature and, with rumours still persisting about David De Gea’s and Victor Valdes’ future at Old Trafford, Louis van Gaal has reportedly snapped up Romero on a three-year deal – according to reports in Italy.
There were confusing reports regarding the Angel di Maria saga on Thursday, with initial reports from beIN sports suggesting that talks between Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain regarding a potential transfer had broken down.
Manchester United are set to wrap-up a deal for Sergio Romero after the Argentinean goalkeeper agreed terms over a three-year contract worth €1.8m net per season, according to Italian outlet Gazzetta Dello Sport.
Manchester United are expected to complete the signing of Sergio Romero shortly.
Van Gaal is well aware of Romero’s abilities after having worked closely with the goalkeeper during their time together at AZ Alkmaar and the fact that United have been able to sign an experienced custodian on a free transfer does represent a good deal for the club. His contract with the Ligurian club expired last month, and United saw off interest from AS Roma and Inter Milan to land the 28-year-old.
The World Cup & Copa America finalist is free to sign for another club after being released by Sampdoria at the end of last season.
However, it is unlikely that he will be Louis van Gaal’s first choice.
