ISIS Confirms Jihadi John’s Death
He was alleged to have been killed in a drone strike in mid-November 2015 in the jihadist Syrian stronghold, Raqqua, shortly after the deadly Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) terror attacks in Paris.
A eulogy for the Islamic State’s most notorious executioner appeared online in the group’s official, English-language magazine on Tuesday, confirming that the militant known as “Jihadi John” was killed in an air strike past year in northern Syria.
They name Jihadi John, whose real name is Mohammed Emwazi as Abū Muhārib al-Muhājir. However, British and USA intelligence officials knew of his identity months before the article was made public.
John had appeared in several videos released by the militant group where victims were beheaded.
ISIS confirmed the death of ‘Jihadi John, whom Western officials identified as Mohammed Emwazi, in the latest issue of its Dabiq magazine. He was confirmed dead by an Islamic State media group on Tuesday.
The U.S. military had said in November it was “reasonably certain” it had killed him with a drone strike in Raqqa, the de facto capital of the Islamic State group, aka either ISIL or ISIS. According to the article, the killed extremist generously once gave away a concubine to an injured brother.
Emwazi was last seen in the video showing Goto’s execution in January.
Born in 1988 in Kuwait, the future terrorist moved to the United Kingdom when he was six years old.
He was known for appearing in videos wearing a black mask over his face, denouncing the West before cutting off the heads of hostages, including US journalists and British aid workers. According to Fox News, “The BBC reported that Emwazi attended Quintin Kynaston Academy in northwest London and in 2009 graduated from University of Westminster with a degree in computers”.
He and three other IS militants with British accents were nicknamed “the Beatles” by some of their captives.
