Fear Not Young Goblins, ‘Labyrinth’ Isn’t Being Rebooted After All
Over the weekend it was reported that the Sony-owned TriStar Pictures had secured a deal to produce a new version of Labyrinth, with Perlman on board to pen the script.
Written by Terry Jones of “Monty Python” fame, executive produced by George Lucas and was directed by Jim Henson, the movie unfortunately didn’t do so well in the box office in 1986, prompting Henson to stop directing.
“Guardians of the Galaxy” screenwriter Nicole Perlman was said to be hired to write the new “Labyrinth” but she put the rumors to rest on Twitter saying there will be no ‘reboot‘.
“Not “rebooting” anything, guys…” she writes.
Perlman said the movie is a favorite from her childhood so she shares the concerns fans have about how “Labyrinth” would be continued, acknowledging the need for the task to be “handled with love and respect”.
She added to Guardian Australia: “Bowie’s music helped me through some of the hardest times of my life”.
Finally, she urged fans not to “fall for all the clickbait”.
Many were upset over the idea that the studio was only remaking the film now to profit off of Bowie’s death a couple of weeks ago. “That movie is ideal as is”.
Entertainment Weekly also wrote that the new film would be a “sequel to the original, not a reboot”.
The movie sees a young Jennifer Connelly play teenager Sarah who has to try to solve a labyrinth and rescue her baby brother after the evil Goblin King granted a wish to take him away from her.
